SMOKE
SMOKE
was a glossy cigar lifestyle quarterly launched in late 1995, first as Smoke Shop's consumer spin off to ride the mid-'90s cigar boom started by Cigar Aficionado in 1992.
Published quarterly and still in small circulation today, its tagline was "cigars, pipes and life's other burning desires," mixing blind cigar reviews and Cuban coverage with luxury goods, travel, fashion, cars and spirits.
Where Aficionado courted the boardroom, SMOKE deliberately chased a younger smoker with celebrity covers like Mel Gibson, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Kurt Russell.
This cover, Elle Macpherson lighting up in sequins with "Cigar Review: Oddball Smokes," counterfeit Cubans, Tahiti travel and spring fashion is peak '90s cigar-glam, selling cigars as sexy Hollywood accessory rather than just tobacco.
This is a copy of the actual photo used in the photo shoot. I purchased a copy from the photographer. It is included here because I spent way too much money on it.
