A music education magazine that debuted with this February 1999 Volume 1, Issue 1, published as an offshoot of Bands of America, the nonprofit organization behind the Grand National Championships, Regional Championships, and summer band camps.
Unlike newsstand rock titles like AP, it was aimed directly at the school band world of directors, student leaders, and performers, mixing artist features with practical program profiles and event news.
The debut cover spotlights Big Bad Voodoo Daddy right at the peak of the late-'90s swing revival, when the band was one of the hottest live acts in America fresh off the Swingers craze and the Super Bowl XXXIII halftime show.
