America's legendary music-industry trade weekly, founded in 1894 in Cincinnati as a magazine for bill-posting and carnival acts before evolving into, as its banner says, "The International Newsweekly of Music, Video and Home Entertainment."
Published weekly for over a century and still running today in print and daily online, it became known as the industry bible, famous for its charts including the Hot 100 launched in 1958 and the Billboard 200 albums chart.
Unlike fan magazines, it was written for insiders: label execs, retailers, radio, and distributors, tracking deals, sales, and trends.
These two March1998 issues are a time capsule of the music industry back then, with headlines about veteran executives in demand, retailers fearing a price war "moving onto the web," and jazz breakout Diana Krall, alongside ads for Morcheeba's Big Calm.
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy was hitting the charts and was listed in Billboard for quite a period of time.
